Our Re-cap of The Global Business Travel Association Conference 2014

on August 05, 2014

I just returned from the GBTA Conference in Los Angeles, which was a great time. All last week (July 26-30) myself, our CEO Patrick Taylor, EVP Chris Rossie, Vice President of Solution Manish Singh, and Sales Director, Mike Harron, were all in sunny L.A. to represent Oversight at this annual event.

GBTA is easily one of the most spectacular conferences I’ve attended. I say this because it is a big show floor, with a lot of booths from well-known brands and vendors, and it is one of the largest conferences Oversight attends each year, with over 8,000 people in attendance. The panel of speakers was phenomenal: the keynote was by Kevin Spacey (of Netflix’s House of Cards), with additional speakers Biz Stone (founder of Twitter) and actor Jason Alexander (George from Seinfeld) They’ve had many notable speakers in the past, but these guys were out to both educate and entertain.

My favorite speaker (personally) was Biz Stone.  He was very low key and had a lot of business advice to offer. I also enjoyed Richard Anderson’s session (CEO of Delta.) He had a Q&A session on stage, and I found his conversation really insightful as well. Kevin Spacey’s keynote was the most entertaining, and he had everyone laughing. I also got the chance to attend a few great parties. The best one? FCm Travel Management hosted an event on the rooftop of the Standard Hotel. Downtown L.A., at night, on a rooftop made me feel like I was in a movie. The Oversight crew stayed in Hollywood, although we didn’t see any celebrities (other than Kevin Spacey at the event!)

Although no one spoke at this conference, we had a well-appointed booth that received lots of foot traffic through our partner Concur’s passport program. More so than any other conference, Concur really helped us drive traffic to the booth and get our name out there. We enjoyed meeting up with clients we are currently engaged with as well as some prospective partners, and a few of our favorite current customers stopped by as well.

To show our Oversight spirit we all coordinated polos to wear each day of the event. We got lots of compliments on the colors (Bright blue and green, obviously.) Here is a picture of Mike and Manish before Kevin Spacey’s talk in their matching Oversight shirts.

I think it is safe to say that all had a good time.
